Postdoc positions in the Bernstein Focus Neuro Technology (BFNT), Frankfurt

The Goethe University, Frankfurt, Department of Mathematics and Informatics, Professorship for Software Engineering, has 2 openings for

post-doc positions

(E13 TV-G-U)

for systems science and engineering research to advance a next generation cognitive vision architecture developed as part of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded Bernstein Focus Neurotechnology (BFNT) Frankfurt, starting April 2015. The positions are

currently limited to 1 year with further renewal based on other industry related projects.

As part of the initiative, we have developed a cognitive architecture and rapid engineering platform based on a fusion of insights from systems engineering and bio-inspired vision. Efforts are also underway on a simulation platform for visual cognition that allows fusion of model-based systems design and analysis along with the latest advances in data driven machine learning for systems optimization.

Preference will be given to candidates with depth in machine learning and computer vision. The candidates must also have sufficient breadth to work in an interdisciplinary team. Experience in systems level modeling, analysis, engineering and implementation of large software systems will be

considered a plus. We are looking for post-graduate students who have graduated in computer science, electrical engineering and/or related disciplines with strong foundations in applied mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, electrical engineering or related disciplines. In general, candidates are required to have a strong analytical background and solid programming skills.

Good communication skills in English (oral and written) are essential.

Applications with documents (in pdf format) containing statement of interest (letter of intent), statement of research interests, CV and list of references are to be submitted electronically

to: by 18. March 2015.

The postdoc positions are mainly in the learning systems area and will work under the supervision of Professor Visvanathan Ramesh (Systems engineering for Vision and Cognition) and will have the opportunity to collaborate with other professors with expertise in bio-inspired vision and computational neuroscience. We also have an active collaboration in the machine learning field with Prof. Roland Memisevic at University of Montreal. The candidates will have further opportunities for joint work with Industry to get a blend of industrial and academic experience.

The contract is based upon the regulations of Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz and Hessisches Hochschulgesetz. Goethe University Frankfurt is committed to increasing the proportion of women in

the female scientific staff and applications from women are particularly appreciated. In case of equal qualifications between two applicants, preference will be given to persons with disabilities.
